UMBRAL

Stefanie Rodriguez & Jossilete Serrano

May 31- June 10

"Umbral" delves into the enigmatic concept of thresholds, immersing viewers in a world of intricate connections between passion and pain, the convergence of physical and spiritual realms, and the profound boundaries within ourselves, evoking contemplation on the complexities of relationships and the transformative power of thresholds.

Jossilete’s artwork in “Umbral” helped her create a positive perception of shame. They attempted to overcome feeling uncomfortable in their body by using it as an object, alluding to the objectification of female bodies in media and entertainment. They cross the threshold between art and sex, exploring sexuality as something human and normal rather than something shameful, in doing so they challenge the taboo of keeping intimacy private. They also address shame about not feeling American or Latine enough, and how guilt pertaining to religion and sexuality is conflicting and painful, but addressing it proves to be the beginning of the path to freeing ones heart and soul from the shackles of that same guilt.

Stefanie explores Latin American culture and it’s cosmovisions. Their artistic expression draws inspiration from the art of storytelling, utilizing a blend of fabricated and organic landscapes, symbolism, and dialectics. Within their work, they traverse the realms of the real and the imaginary, exploring both physical and spiritual realms.
