Conversations with Collections

Zoe Wood, Valentina Chavez, & CCBER Photography-Ecology Workshop Students
February - 2022

What does it mean to be a witness to change in our surroundings? What does it mean to collect, curate, and preserve visual information? How does the practice of observation of the natural world inform our daily lives?

Conversations with Collections is a set of informal, directed inquiries using 35mm photography that challenges how we perceive the spatial and temporal dynamics of the places we frequent. Layers of images simultaneously celebrate the knowns and unknowns within our collective and individual understanding of biological complexity.

Featuring photographs by artist and ecologist Zoe Wood, immersive sound by Valentina Chavez (CCS Art, L&S HAA), and work by participants in the Winter 2022 Photography & Ecology Workshop (led by Zoe Wood, Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration).
